Civilisation VII studio Firaxis have welcomed prolific modder Sukritact on board as a tech artist, announcing the news in the grand strategy game‘s Discord. Sukritact has a storied Steam workshop history of Civilisation VI mods dating back to 2017. These range from fully-animated wonders to rebalances, and their recent ‘Sukritact’s Simple UI Adjustments‘ has been going down well with Civ 7 players.
That user interface has been a point of contention since release, with Greg Costikyan saying it had “real issues” in his review for RPS. A patch released yesterday targeted some of these issues, with another planned for March 25th. It also added the Bermuda “nobody be getting lost over here no more” Triangle wonder.
Modders getting the well-deserved bag can be safely considered one of the unequivocally good genres of gaming news – although someone does point out in the above linked Reddit thread that this means working to a company’s schedule rather than a personal one. Still, It’s always lovely to hear. Recently, Bethesda hired Fallout: London writer Stephanie Zachariadis as an associate quest designer. CD Projekt hired a mod-making Australian beetroot farmer to work on The Witcher 4. Valve also have a history of snagging outside tinkerer talent.
Firaxis certainly sound like they need additional hands on deck at the moment. Despite the game releasing under a month ago (or slightly earlier if you ponied up extra for the “my current level of expertly engineered excitement is surely an accurate reflection of my future enjoyment” edition), they’re already rolling out the DLC.
